Civilians in wwI
- Civilians were affected horribly with the war. There was not enough food, there had to be rations of things like bread, tea, and sugar. There were 8 to 10 million soldiers that were killed in the war so this means that almost everyone lost a member of their family. The government tried to act as if everything was okay when in reality everything wasn't okay because everyday there were so many people dying in the war.
Women's role
- With so many men going to battle during the war many women had to step and begin to find jobs. Women began to work in factories and coal mines to make a living, To make matters worse, Britain was unable to import food therefore the Women land army was created. Their job was to maximize the countries outcome and to also feed the nation. Some women also worked as nurses to take care of men who were injured in the war.
florence green
- Florence Green was said to be the oldest living WWI veteran. She served Women's royal air force (WRAF) and started when she was 17. Her job in the WRAF was to breakfeast, lunch, and tea. The point of the WRAF was to free up men for active service. She also said that women were used for a variety of jpbs such as drivers, mechanics, cooks, and office clerks. At first the WRAF was based in England but 500 women were sent to Germany and France.
Propaganda
- Propaganda is used in advertisements pr what people say to make you want to do something. People will talk about it in positive ways and make it sound very pleasing. This is what happened in the time of WWI. To recruit men into the army people would try to talk it up or they would make men believe that they are cowards if they didn't join the war. Propaganda was a good method to get people to join because men didn't want to be looked upon as a coward so therefore they would join in order to look like they are strong.
- These two posters were both used as propaganda during WWI to try and get people to enroll in the military. These posters make people feel like their country really needs them in the military for the war. This form of propaganda did work because people did enroll in the military from these.
